Emma Watson, a child star, known for playing Hermione in Harry Potter film series and Belle in Beauty and the Beast, appointed as a UN Ambassador. She recently posed for a Vanity Fair photoshoot and was accused a hypocrite.
Julia Hartley-Brewer, a British radio presenter and commentator said, "Feminism, feminism... gender wage gap... why oh why am I not taken seriously... feminism... oh, and here are my tits!"
Emma Watson defends herself, "Feminism is about giving women choice. Feminism is not about a stick with which to beat other women with. It's about freedom, it's about liberation, it's about equality. I really don't know what my tits have to do with it. It's very confusing." She adds, "It just always reveals to me how many misconceptions and what a misunderstanding there is about what feminism is."
A few fans proudly support Emma's response and say, "Women can be smart and sexual and sassy and conservative and sophisticated and still want to make the same amount of money as their male counterparts, ALL AT THE SAME TIME", and "A woman can be both sexual and serious". It's all about confidence, sensuality and identity. And like Emma states, "LIBERTY!" And she has done just that!
Women are easily judged for being free-spirited or promiscuous. Men are not questioned but women cannot take one step to do whatever they like.
And when it comes to interviews, women are not asked about how well they've trained for a challenging role to fit in the character's shoes. Instead, they're questioned about whether they were wearing underwear or what type underneath their costumes or their body image. Whereas, men are noticed on how hard they work for their role. Women are not faded wallflowers. They have equal substance in what they do. What do you think? Until next read... ciao!
