Dear fellow readers,

I came across a very interesting article in Marie Claire's January 2017 issue, Who should pay for the first date? It was written in two different perspectives by Josh Glancy and Poppy Logan.

To be perfectly honest, that's a very good question. It's generally considered that men pay the bill but these days, it doesn't really matter. Some people may prefer tradition while others choose to split the bill or one beats the other to the bill. Josh states, 'Gender inequality is hardwired into concepts such as chivalry.' And Poppy says, 'I equate whether he is happy to foot the bill with how much he likes me.'

There's certainly a lot to say about this matter as it falls into gender equality. I on the other hand, don't really care. I'm not traditional and prefer to split the bill unless the guy insists otherwise. Women expect men to pay and if they don't, they're no gentleman. It's seen as a romantic gesture and it means he wants to treat his date, not just out of courtesy. I guess if a woman paid, it may emasculate the man, depending on how people look at the situation. I don't think there's a specific guide on how paying for a first date is supposed to be. I believe it's a preference of how people feel about paying the bill when the time comes at the end of a date. Tradition falls right into gender inequality because men are always considered to take the lead. And equality is essential as it should not matter who makes the first move. I think it's time to break the mold people! Until the next read... ciao!
